No + Llora

Just came back home from a very nice dinner with friends, a song by Bebe got shuffled up by my iPod and was my company during the short walk home so I thought I’d share it here, it’s sweet. It also reminded me that I missed her concert in Palau de la Música last week, it is just next door from my place and I really like her songs and lyrics so it is a bit sad.. but well, it happens. I should bring my SLR Canon along more as well, this city is so overwhelming that I have been choosing to leave the camera at home to be able to actually get somewhere instead of stopping every five seconds to take pictures. Starting tomorrow she’s hanging along again, but now – goodnight!

Street art

image

The decoration on my little street changes every day. These tiny details are a perfect way of keeping my mind on a safe distance away from boring routines and patterns. There’s always something new to appreciate even when passing by the same walls four times daily, the people who entertain  themselves with this kind of art seem to be very ambitious and consistent here in Barcelona. I’m not kidding when saying that the paintings on the streets I pass change a couple of times daily.
Basically, I love this city and its randomness.

Spanish in bed

I need to find myself a desk tomorrow. A very nice thing about Barcelona is that every neighbourhood has a specific day when the people that live there put out their old furniture in the streets. Perfect for short-term students, money savers and squatters. Tomorrow is the day of my barrio, and I am going on a hunt for a big desk for my room and a little chair for my balcony. Wish me luck!

Changes & Avatars

Imagine finding your own Avatar in Barcelona.

I am very happy about the progress I am experiencing at the moment and I am in love with this city, the language and my new room. But as always, things are changing rapidly for me and this highly appreciated state that I find myself in right now might quite soon be exchanged for a different, hopefully better and more stimulating, reality. Let’s see where all these perfect little coincidences and my never ending searching takes me. Let’s hope it’s a warm place. :)

La Champagneria

Today I had lunch at La Champagneria again which is one of my favourite places here in Barcelona. For a couple of euros you get great food and countless refills of the local pink champagne Cava until you get just as beautifully tipsy as one can get on a monday afternoon without tipping over.

The beauty of the place is that cava is the only thing you can order with your meat, chicken, chorizo or ham burger so every single person you see in the crowd is both chewing and sipping alcohol, or in other words – happy and interesting.

So we had our bocadillos and a plate of jamón, finished our glasses of cava and stepped out into the Barcelona sun.. and that’s kind of when I realised that this city is mine now and that I am living here – within walking distance from la champagneria.

Ceilings and Ballerinas

Life has been on the roll since I last wrote here. I have been to IKEA where I got some random things to make my room more me.. I also got a heating fan that keeps me warm and I have been at a very interesting jobinterview which I celebrated with a good party and some great La Roca-outlet shopping this weekend. Today has been a perfect ending to this very promising week, a beautiful Sunday in bed – just the way I like them.

Now – cherry on top – Swedish Ballerina cookies from IKEA and Spanish grammar in my beloved room with the high ceiling.

A new week in Barcelona is on tomorrow.

New places, new projects.

Just came out from an interview plus a very long and fruitful meeting at the UN Association and I am really looking forward to the project I will be working on there. Now I need to get some kind of heating device to make my room less igloo-like and then I have a presentation in Spanish to prepare. Things are starting to roll now and I am really enjoying. Especially the fact that I live 4 minutes walking distance from all my daily activities and that this city is inexplicably interesting – there’s always something to do!

Big interview tomorrow – different place, different game but not a bit less interesting – wish me luck!
