Samba!

It wasn’t anything near the best night of my life, but those of you who know me know that the best way to make me happy is to let me dance.. and that I did. Tons and hours. Samba!

Now 2,5 hours of sleep ahead of me and my very tired legs. Goodnight to myself. And thank you for the very sweet messages.

Birthdays with strangers

So, as every year, comes the day before my birthday.

And, as so many times before, I am in a distant place, where the people I spend my days with aren’t the people who actually care about and know me. I don’t generally take birthdays and anniversaries very seriously, but they do awake some sort of nostalgia that makes me give an extra thought to people that I would like to spend my days with and that I miss for various reasons. I have spent birthdays in many different parts of the world, with new friends and strangers that many times have given me a great time full of laughter and dancing. This year I have only been around here for about a week and I will be crossing the border to South Africa tomorrow to buy groceries and get some passports stamped which naturally isn’t very exciting. It will probably be nice to be able to buy something that is not ridiculously overpriced and to extend my very limited wardrobe when I have the chance, maybe spend some hours by a hostel pool. I might go dancing with friendly strangers tonight as there is some sort of carnival here in Maputo but the party usually starts at 24 in the night, and I need to be on a bus at 7.20 tomorrow morning. Anyway, what I wanted to tell you is that we will stay in the little town named Nelspruit until Sunday morning, and I probably won’t have wifi all day, so no calling or hugging tomorrow, my darlings – I’m sorry, you are all truly missed.

Then the sky opened up..

Spent a lovely day walking around in a hot and sunny Maputo. Then, suddenly, a big black cloud rolled in over us, leaves started to spin around in the wind, and the sky opened up – almost knocking our tuk tuk taxi over.

Yesterday we went out in the evening, today we went swimming in the pool and walked around all day. I should be able to publish a proper blogpost with pictures tomorrow evening.

Friday!

On Fridays I only work until 13:00 which is fantastic, and today I got a little gift! After work we walked to have a look at the beach and later to my friends place, she lives on the 17th floor so I have some skyline photos that you will get to see at some other point. Now I need to take a quick powernap before I let my first weekend here begin, it’s 19:00 over here right now in case you didn’t know. Good night!

Sweaty & happy

Had a great first day at the office, sweaty but wonderful and I can’t wait to really get things rolling. I’ve been a bit angry at myself today for not speaking Portuguese, I understand a lot but I have to answer people in Spanish which feels rude.. on the other hand, I’ve been here for one day so I’m just being harsh on myself, haha – I still have time to learn and I will do my best, muito bom!
Here’s a picture to prove that I’m still alive and because I want to remember how pale I was in the beginning, haha. Remember when I wrote that very cheesy post that I called My extremes? – it’s one of the reasons I have this blog. Because it reminds me of what I wanted and wished for in the past, and the feeling of actually having made that happen makes me really happy. And also because I couldn’t print photos for my writings in normal diaries, or carry them around the world. And because some of my dear friends like reading my nonsense. :)

Good night

When I was younger I was told that the dream one had when sleeping in a new place would come true. I didn’t really believe it, but it was good fun to try to remember the dream in the morning and get that little piece of colourful magic in one’s life. Tonight will be the first night in my new room here in Maputo – but I’m not sure I will manage to dream something that is more beautiful than my current reality.
