Budget Luxuries

imageimage

I sometimes live in cities where public parks and beaches aren’t as accessible as they should be, considering the fantastic weather one is offered. I can’t afford to have my own pool and beautiful garden, so I always make sure to find a hotel close by instead, where I can go for lunch and a break from work and other responsibilities. The perfect solution to treating oneself with little luxuries in life while on a budget.

The rainy season is on, so we are having a classic rain/sun day today in Managua – this means you take a swim in the pool while it’s raining, to then get up and relax in the sun. Beautiful.

Libres

Absolutely adoring this experimental electronic track with a touch of cumbia and some other latin vibes, released under one of my favourite labels, Bad Panda Records, by the Argentinian band Barrio Lindo. There’s an EP coming up! Photo from a hairdressing studio in Bluefields, Nicaragua about a month ago.

Now, you know it’s Friday, right? That means you get all of this – and a free download of the track! Isn’t life sweet?

Bad vibes

Today was a day of negative vibes. Not big one’s, but significant little dramas.

I’m a solution driven person with rationality and balance as my base, conflicts usually pass me by completely and it’s very hard to provoke me to get angry. It upsets some people that I’m so calm and relaxed about things and always try to find an underlying reason to why somebody acted a certain way or said something.. by some it’s appreciated.

However, when misunderstandings and drama come from interaction with friends I really care about, they can make me very uncomfortable. Still not angry, but eager to fix and sad. I like problems to be solved and misunderstandings to be explained and agreed upon as soon as possible, in good order and with a smile. I don’t like things to be left unclear, open, uncertain. I want all the bad essence squeezed out completely, and not have to feel like there are any hard feelings left.

All of this preferably before going to sleep, which was always the rule we had with my mom when I was little – to solve problems and go to sleep in peace and with a smile.

However, rule number one in human interaction is: People have different needs, expectations and preferences. Don’t expect anybody to think/feel the same way you do about things.

So I’m going to sleep without having solved this one.

Buenas noches.

Immortal campaigns

The advertising agency Ogilvy and Sport Club Recife have introduced the world’s first ever organ donor card from a football team, encouraging football fans to become immortal fans by registering as donors. Over 51,000 people have registered for a card, and organ donation in Brazil increased by 51% in only a year, breaking a historic record.

“My heart will always continue beating for Sport Club Recife!”

This campaign is absolutely brilliant and very inspiring. Advertising and creativity used for good.

Dimensions and childish distractions

That was in 1992 and I’m not sure what those 3D glasses did, but I was completely hooked on my VHS cassettes with My Little Pony, Resan till America and Wielka Podroz Bolka i Lolka. Today, I never turn on a TV to watch it by myself. In fact, if I have a TV, I take it out of my room because it only takes up space. This creates a little issue that my friends always laugh about – if there is a TV in a room that I enter, I can’t help but being very distracted by it, especially if it is playing the news, a bad Mexican soap opera, ridiculous commercials to laugh about, or cartoons. My favourite TV activity of all is to watch Cartoons together with kids. And random movies, of course, preferably in the company of curious and analytic adults. And I will talk during the movie, just so you know.

Dub Side of the Moon

Easy Star All Stars – Dub Side of the Moon (2003)

This album by the Jamaican/American reggae collective Easy Star All Stars is a Dub Reggae tribute to Pink Floyd’s fantastic 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon. The original masterpiece is impossible to beat, but I like the feel of this one as well. The photo is a glimpse of Managua, as seen through rain and street light bokeh. Good night, world.

Tropical midsummer night

The night in the Ikaria eco hostel was amazing and relaxing. Being on a very small island with a group of warm and charismatic people makes you bond fast and we shared a lot of laughs, thoughts and talks while swimming in the pool under this year’s biggest moon. We slept with the balcony open, listening to the water just next to us hitting against the rock wall of the little islet – Ikaria is a truly peaceful place. We didn’t get to celebrate a typical Swedish midsummer this year either, but as a friend brought us Hawaiian lei’s, we transformed our night into one of celebrating not only life, but also diversity and opportunities.
