Photo Exhibition: The children of India and their reality

September – December 2010

.

With grants from the Cultural Department of Malmö City and the Swedish United Nations Association, I organised a photo exhibition with photos I had recently taken in India in order to raise money for the children of the world through UNICEF.

The project, entitled “Indiens barn och deras verklighet“, (translates to “The children of India and their reality“) aimed to show the reality of India’s children through my photography, and raise an awareness for the situation that a lot of the world’s children currently live in.

During a six week travel through India from September to November in 2010, I photographed and met children in various parts of the country and different levels of society.

The exhibition was held during one day, the 19th of December 2010 at Kulturhuset Mazetti in Malmö. Even though there was a snowstorm outside, almost 200 people showed up.

Donations were received through sms, photography-orders and cash. 54 photographs were sold to the visitors and when ending the project more than 12500kr was collected to my Unicef account named “Tillsammans för Kidsen!” (translates to “Together for the Kids!”)

It is still possible to donate 5€ by sending an sms from a Swedish mobile number to 72900 and writing KÄMPA KIDS. Other ways of donating, such as buying gifts for friends or vaccines and mosquito nets for children are possible on the website.

The event page on facebook was used for posting news and marketing the event, also, people were using it for giving feedback, although most of the feedback was left in a guestbook that was on site. Acknowledgements can be found here.
