It’s 4.30am, I’m going to the beach for a couple of days – and I’m not bringing my watch.
I have millions of random little treasures in my external harddrives. Here’s one I haven’t shared before:
During a short bus stop between Hampi and Goa, in the middle of nowhere – I found this small window of joy.

And the man just kept on chewing.
“We have five more minutes sweetie, what would you like me to draw now?”
“Uhm….. a spikemouse, of course!” Oh, of course.

With everything planned and under control, making this event happen was going to be a huge experience for me. I got this great opportunity and responsibility that I not only worked long hours for, but also learnt tons from. I couldn’t wait to see it all fall into place this upcoming Friday. It was my baby.
And then, three days prior to this very exciting international high-level event – it’s not happening due to reasons we cannot control.
It makes me quite sad for many reasons, not least for the young participants that were looking forward to it more than I was, for the months of focus and work, or for the sudden gap in my resumé.
Next step is trying to find a way to make up for this loss. I need more checklists, bring on the responsibilities!
Guess who forgot her sunscreen when sitting in the sun all Sunday. I’m all pink today.
My favourite moment of that 34 hour birthday celebration? Back in Maputo, after returning from those sand dunes I showed you before, a perfect song comes on. It’s 8am, Sunday morning, and the streets are almost empty. Etevaldo suddenly stops the car, jumps out, drags the rest of us out as well, and we all dance kizomba in the middle of the street.
This group is just great, so much energy, love and happiness.
Good morning and happy birthday!
Another great night out in Maputo. It’s Etevaldo’s birthday and we have danced until there was almost no people left, so we took the party to the car and found ourselves on this huge sand dune somewhere on the outskirts of the city where it now continues. Next stop is dropping by to pick up swimsuits at home and going to spend the day by a pool.
We will sleep when we get old, life is just too awesome right now.
Best reason in the world to come back home from the office before 8pm.
I have put up one of my photos from Changara in my office. It’s like a window reminding me of why I’m here and of what it was like to be in the field. Maputo is really not representative for the rest of this country and it’s pretty easy to forget that.
(Yes, I’m at work on a public holiday. Haha.)
Here’s some very worrying Mozambique statistics for you. Always in front of me and another reason to stay put.
