Try getting your hands on this album – It’s magical. I’m enchanted by this woman’s mesmerizing voice and the way it merges perfectly with the shifting beats. Is this electronica combined with post-rock, left-field R&B or psychedelic pop? Who cares – here’s another one. Less porn, more drums. I love it.

Towards a Food Secure Future

UNDP released the new Africa Human Development Report 2012 yesterday. This year, it focuses on food security as a precondition for sustained human development in sub-Saharan Africa. Being based in Africa at the moment, and with my experience of and continued commitment to the mandate of the WFP, this is a golden opportunity for me to learn more about how to combat hunger and how Africa is doing in the matter – with the help of well written and comprehensive texts and fresh-out-the-box stats in pretty graphics.

I attended the global launch of UNDP’s 2011 Human Development Report in Copenhagen – and I’m a complete sucker for this kind of publications. They are the result of incredible amounts of work and research, and even though the numbers don’t always give you the complete picture of what the issues actually are, as the common problem with statistics is - they are excellent at providing an overview of and understanding for what the world looks like.

Just got a message from a friend. She wrote that she misses me and sent me a photo of a collage I did for her birthday some years ago. It’s our years in high school and some more, spent together, singing, skiing, eating chocolate, dancing to Halid Beslic and having lots of unpredictable fun. Me and Bex.

Xipamanine & Chopal

Yesterday, we got picked up by Ericka and her brother to visit the Xipamanine market where you can buy anything from shoes and second hand underwear to vegetables and.. anything. We spent the rest of the day in their house in 25 de Junho district, also called Chopal. We cooked, took a walk around the area, visited the local bakery, bought drinks from a prom queen, and watched a strange Brazilian tv show.. as the evening came, we squeezed in to a chapa and headed back to Maputo. The colourful day gave me not only some good deals but also a couple of really nice shots. And two videos. Enjoy!

But I’m pretty sure these 8€ weird brand trainers can run just as fast and play tennis just as well as any other shoes. So I guess it all depends on me now as I’m not very good at all at playing tennis.. I do love it though, and that’s what matters – right? Oh, and running? Please, don’t even ask..

Every weekday, I wake up at 6am, which is just about the same time as the sun rises. I have always refused to use curtains in my room, as I really enjoy waking up with the sun on my eyelids and could sleep forever if the room is dark. On weekends, however, this means that I’m bathing in direct sunlight by 7.30. I usually manage to snooze away until 8.30, but after that it simply gets too bright and too hot in here. So I get up, get out, and take a walk around my still sleepy Maputo. Or continue polishing those job applications.
